Data Protection Practice Lead

Strategic Business Systems, Inc. (SBS) is a rapidly-growing IT services company that is seeking a motivated individual to lead SBS' Data Protection Practice. This individual will be responsible for:
  • Managing partner relationships around services for data protection
  • Providing technical expertise to develop architecture and engineered solutions across multiple backup and storage platforms
  • Being the final escalation point for technical resources in data protection
  • Reporting to the office of CTO for all technical issues and solutions and any current state of affairs with customers and OEM partners
  • Providing training and education to technical resources on the team
  • Performing technical health checks, operational health checks, and suggestions for enhancement to optimize service levels
  • Staying up to date with data protection technologies and best practices, including studying and certifying in additional data protection products, in order to be the SME relied upon by customers and partners
  • Providing next steps, summaries, and resolutions for operational managers and directors
  • Discussing solutions at various level including detailed technical and executive summary
Experience required:
  • Providing internal or external pre-sales support, including detailing tasks and level of effort
  • Managing large Enterprise IT environment(s) and data protection solutions including physical tape, disk storage platforms, and cloud-based solutions
  • Technical expertise to architecture level in at LEAST ONE of the following data protection products (order of preference followed): Veritas Netbackup, Commvault Simpana or rebranded versions, Spectrum Protect / TSM, Commvault Intellisnap (or SnapProtect), VEEAM, Networker, Avamar, Data Protector.
  • Be able to discuss in detail solutions that provide archiving (like Enterprise Vault/Commvault/HSM/etc.), backup (Netbackup, etc.), e-discovery (Clearwell, etc.) and understand basic concepts regardless of vendor product in discussion of disaster recovery and business continuity
  • At least 10 years’ experience directly in the data protection field
  • Ability to create Visio diagrams and detailed infrastructure requirements
  • Ability to create operational process diagrams and scalable solutions
  • Ability to perform GAP analysis and technical health checks
Expectations for Interview:
Due to the level for this job, several interviews will be conducted with the applicant(s). The first interview will determine if the resource is qualified and meets criteria.  This will be done remotely. The second interview will be a detailed technical discussion by a panel of technical resources and will request examples of previous work from applicants for verification; this will be also performed remotely. The final interview will be in person or via video conferencing with the CTO, COO, and CEO of the company to discuss nuances and scenarios of the position.
