Location: Chantilly, VA (Onsite Preferred)
Work Arrangement: Onsite / Hybrid (mission dependent)

Security Clearance: Active TS/SCI with CI Polygraph required

ABOUT SBS

Strategic Business Systems, Inc. (SBS) delivers AWS-aligned mission-critical cloud, cybersecurity, software engineering, and data modernization solutions to the U.S. Department of Defense, the Intelligence Community, and federal civilian agencies.

We hire engineers, architects, and consultants who want to do hands-on work on high-impact national-security programs while collaborating directly with AWS Professional Services. Our culture is technical, lean, and clearance-friendly: we invest in certifications, retain talent through long-duration prime engagements, and provide a comprehensive benefits package.

POSITION SUMMARY

SBS is partnering with Amazon Web Services to staff senior engineers who blend application development with cloud and DevOps engineering on a high-visibility federal program. You will own services end-to-end — from writing the code to deploying, monitoring, and operating it in production.

This role requires a current TS/SCI with CI Polygraph and is staffed onsite at Chantilly, VA. You will work alongside AWS Professional Services and the customer's mission application teams on systems where uptime, performance, and security matter.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design, develop, test, and deploy scalable AWS-native applications and services.

  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines that enable safe, frequent, and auditable deployments.

  • Automate infrastructure provisioning using Terraform and AWS CloudFormation.

  • Develop APIs, microservices, and event-driven components using AWS Lambda, API Gateway, SQS, and EventBridge.

  • Ensure applications meet production-readiness, security, and performance standards before release.

  • Containerize workloads with Docker and operate them on Amazon ECS or Amazon EKS.

  • Diagnose and resolve issues across development, integration, and production environments.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with AWS, customer architecture teams, and other vendors.

  • Participate in Agile ceremonies, design reviews, and code reviews.

  • Continuously optimize system performance, cost, and operational efficiency.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • U.S. Citizenship and an active TS/SCI with CI Polygraph.

  • Six (6) or more years of professional software engineering experience, including substantial work in cloud environments.

  • Proficiency in at least one modern language: Python, Java, JavaScript / TypeScript, or C#.

  • Hands-on experience with AWS services including EC2, S3, Lambda, API Gateway, VPC, and IAM.

  • Demonstrated experience designing and operating CI/CD pipelines.

  • Working knowledge of Docker and container-based deployment.

  • Comfort in Linux environments with shell scripting (Bash) skills.

  • Strong full-lifecycle ownership — from requirements through production support.

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field — or equivalent professional experience.

  • Clear written and verbal communication skills for technical documentation, stakeholder coordination, and customer-facing delivery.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Multi-project consulting or professional-services background.

  • Federal or defense-customer delivery experience.

  • Infrastructure-as-Code expertise (Terraform, AWS CDK, CloudFormation).

  • Kubernetes / EKS experience.

  • DevSecOps practices: Static Application Security Testing (SAST) / Dynamic Application Security Testing (DAST) integration, software supply chain, image hardening.

  • Observability tooling: CloudWatch, OpenTelemetry, ELK, Prometheus, Grafana.

CERTIFICATIONS

Required:

  • None mandatory.

Preferred:

  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect — Associate or Professional

  • AWS Certified DevOps Engineer — Professional

  • AWS Certified Developer — Associate

  • Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA)

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
